At-Home Facial Tips & Tricks – Pamper Yourself
Proper at-home skincare and facials are one of the most relaxing and luxurious but also simple things that you can do for yourself. Right now, more than ever, as our busy life schedules are starting to resume and reality is returning, many of us need to take care of ourselves and destress more than ever. However, returning to the office, or normal social lives means it’s not possible to book regular appointments with you therapist for professional facials.
Fortunately, it is still possible to give yourself a spa-quality facial at home. However, to call something an at-home facial means doing something deeper than your daily routine, we recommend pampering yourself once a week with an at-home facial. A facial even at-home should still be considered a treat, not a daily occurrence.
Create a Relaxing Atmosphere
When you can’t visit to the beauty clinic or spa, you can bring the spa to you by creating some relaxing ambience at home. This may seem like a small step but erasing as much stress as possible to unwind will make your facial that much better.
We recommend taking a bath with Epsom Salt which will add relaxation and de-stress. If you’re not in the mood for a full-body dip, you can soak your feet for the same de-stressing feeling. Soaking with Epson salt is very healthy for all of your pressure points and its very relaxing.
A further idea for optimal relaxation we recommend adding a few drops of lavender essential oil (or any essential oil that feels right to you). Finally, be sure to light a few of your favourite candles and put on a relaxing playlist of your choice.
Make Sure to Cleanse your Skin Properly
Before beginning any steps of the facial is it important you start with a clean canvas. The residue of any makeup or product left the skin will result is a less effective facial. So therefore, it is essential to cleanse your skin well before you start the facial process, even give double cleansing a try.
We recommend using an oil-based cleanser first to remove all the makeup, products, and sebum from the skin. Then it is recommended to use a water-based cleanser which will clear your skin of any grime like dirt or sweat, leaving you with a squeaky-clean face ready for your facial.

Time for Steam
If you are a regular facial getter, you know that most facials will include steaming process. Steaming will help to open your pores and soften the top layer of your skin and get it ready for exfoliation.
When steaming your face at home, its important to take extra care and ensure not to over-steam your skin, as this can result in dryness. Here at KMK we recommend to possible ways to safety steam your face. You can hover your face over a bowl of hot water and cover your head with a towel to trap the steam in, or you could soak a towel in hot water and put it over your face, making sure that the water isn’t hot enough to burn you.

Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate
Any good facial (even an at-home facial for that matter) incorporates exfoliation to remove dead skin cells and reveal radiant skin. Exfoliating helps to make sure the rest of the products you apply are being absorbed properly. There are numerous times of exfoliates to choose from, peels, chemical exfoliators, scrubs etc. The best for you will depend on your skin type. We recommend discussing this and getting advice from the pros who know your skin and can best advise you what to use. After applying the exfoliator and leaving it on for a few minutes, begin a gentle scrub on the face to ensure you remove the dead skin cells.
Massage & Mask
A facial wouldn’t feel right without some type of face mask. You can pick whatever mask you want to use based on your specific skin needs. To make your at-home experience resemble a professional treatment try massaging in your face mask for a few minutes instead of just smoothing it on quickly. If the mask your using is a on the thick side and you are struggling to massage it we recommend wetting your fingers with warm water. Then massage your mask into the skin. That will greatly improve how glowing your skin looks afterward.
Leave the mask on for between 15 to 20 minutes. Lie down or sit in a relaxing or comfortable position for optimum de-stressing and relaxation.
Moisturizer your Skin
One of the most important steps when trying to achieve a radiant glow is well-moisturized skin with a top-rated moisturised skin. Once your remove the mask, lock in the hydration with your favourite serum/moisturizer. To make your facial feel professional and luxurious we recommend mixing a few drops of your serum into a moisturizer.

Skip the Extractions
Extractions can be one of the most satisfying parts of a facial, however this is one step you should leave to the pros, we don’t recommend trying it at home. Attempting to execute your own extractions and pick at your face is never a good idea and can often make it worse or in extremes lead to infection.
